ENERGY EFFICIENT AC SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE

Daikin’s new initiative to enhance people’s quality of life and the environment

Tanzania is a country located in the torrid zone. It is still difficult for people to purchase air conditioners, despite having tropical temperatures all year round.
That is why Daikin launched Baridi Baridi, a joint venture with a startup associated with the University of Tokyo, to provide an affordable and energy-efficient AC subscription service.

Lessening our environmental impact with energy-efficient air conditioners and refrigerant recovery systems.
Our AC subscription service also contributes to enhancing the quality of life for people in Tanzania.

In 30 years, the global energy demand for AC cooling will increase triple

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the energy demand for AC cooling is estimated to triple in the next 30 years.* Although air conditioners sold in most developed countries pass strict energy-efficiency standards, air conditioners sold in emerging countries tend to be inexpensive, low-efficiency, non-inverter units. As non-inverter air conditioner sales expand, there are concerns that CO2 emissions will rise in tandem with increasing energy consumption, contributing to climate change and other environmental problems.

Reducing energy consumption with inverter air conditioners

The air conditioners that Baridi Baridi provides through its subscription service are highly energy efficient. An inverter air conditioner system can accurately adjust the temperature and reduce energy consumption by 58% compared to non-inverter air conditioners.

The importance of collecting refrigerants more harmful than CO2

In order to release hot or cold air, air conditioners use chemical compounds called “refrigerants.” Refrigerants are more harmful to the environment than CO2 is; therefore, it is important to collect them at the time of disposal. However, there are no refrigerant recovery systems in developing countries, and most are released into the atmosphere.
When ending Baridi Baridi’s subscription service, refrigerants will be collected together with the AC unit without being released into the atmosphere.
